Overview of Amazon POS
While the new Amazon POS system is not out quite yet, we wanted to share the information that we currently know about the new software.
There’s been a rumor for some time that Amazon might be in the works to develop a new POS system to disrupt the market. Considering that Amazon has already created scan-and-go technology and has its own payment services utilized at its Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh Stores, it’s no big surprise that the online shopping giant is going after the small business market.
As recently reported in an exclusive Business Insider report, Amazon is developing a new POS system to compete with some top POS companies like Shopify, PayPal, and Square POS.
Is Best For
According to a leaked internal document, the new Amazon POS system is purported to handle in-store and online sales with inventory and checkout options available. The POS will be available for purchase by third-party sellers and will integrate other Amazon services like the Flex delivery network, palm-based ID technology, and Prime memberships.
“This will allow our small business (SMB) customers to unify their online and offline channel management including inventory, offer Amazon One for contactless recognition and payment, and offer a customizable loyalty program that can utilize Prime benefits.”
So what does this mean for the POS industry? The bottom line is that a point of sale from Amazon will be a real game-changer and allow small businesses to scale by combining all of Amazon’s tools for online and offline sales.
Also with Amazon’s 24/7 customer service, we believe small businesses will be served well when it comes to service and support.
Amazon POS Pricing
Pricing details coming soon. With over 2 million active third-party resellers, Amazon could pull a large number of merchants away from other POS companies to join the Amazon ecosystem. That being said, we’ll have to wait to see how everything works together (online and offline) and take a look at pricing, features, etc., to see how it’s going to compete in the POS marketplace.
Either way, we’re really excited about the potential to get our hands on the new Amazon POS solution when it’s available. Amazon isn’t confirming or denying a new POS, but you’ll be sure to find a full review of the Amazon POS if and when it has been released.
