From banker to restaurant owner, Fetlework Tefferi was first drawn to the food industry as a teenager living in the Midwest. Upon hearing that she emigrated from Ethiopia to the U.S., people had this perception that everyone in her homeland was starving, and she should be so grateful to be here eating pizza and hamburgers.

Fetlework wanted to introduce people to the Ethopian food and culture she knew and loved, and eventually opened the now award-winning Café Colucci in Oakland, California.

She also owns a spice shop next door, a culinary studio, and wrote a book about Ethiopian spices.“Sheltered in isolation, Ethiopian culinary art flourished autonomously for centuries,” she writes. “Farmer families have entrusted the seeds of their crops as well as ancient cultivation processes from father to son, while family spice blending from mother to daughter for generations on end.”

Remember when you used to feel guilty for spending hours on your phone, scrolling through social media? (Thanks for the screen time report, iPhone)

Now, social media is a lifeline, connecting businesses with customers, global citizens with worthy causes, and family members with all the small moments.

Though it’s only been around for less than 20 years (remember MySpace?), social media has redefined how we work, live, and play. As a business, you need to be where your consumers are – and more often than not, that’s scrolling through feeds.

How is your restaurant’s social media game? Here are common mistakes and how to avoid them bit.ly/2Zldco0

One report is saying that to-go food orders are 300 times more popular than before the COVID-19 crisis began. But what’s the best system to use? Your own website? Or third-party apps? https://bit.ly/3ffRp7r
