MICROS kitchen printer not printing? This usually means the terminal can’t reach the printer, or order routing isn’t configured correctly. When kitchen tickets stop printing, the line comes to a halt fast.
Here’s how to quickly restore kitchen printing so your restaurant keeps moving.
Table of Contents
Common Reasons MICROS Kitchen Printers Stop Printing
- Printer is powered off or jammed
- Loose Ethernet cable or bad network port
- Static IP or routing issues in MICROS
- Printer assigned to wrong order devices
- Printer offline in CAL service or BOH
- Paper installed upside down (thermal printers)
How to Fix MICROS Kitchen Printer Problems
1. Check Printer Power & Paper
It sounds basic — but this is the #1 cause of failed kitchen prints.
- Verify printer power is on
- Replace paper roll (thermal paper prints only on one side)
- Check for paper jams and clear them
If the error light is flashing, remove jammed paper and restart.
2. Check Ethernet Cable & Network Connection
MICROS printers usually use an Ethernet (network) connection, not USB.
- Confirm both ends of the Ethernet cable are secure
- Check for link lights on the switch port
- Swap the cable or port to rule out hardware failure
No link light = no communication, no printing.
3. Restart the Printer + Workstation
A power cycle refreshes the printer’s network connection and clears print queue errors.
- Power printer off for 10–15 seconds
- Restart the workstation sending the orders
Try printing a test ticket afterward.
4. Confirm the Printer’s Static IP Address
If the printer loses its static IP, MICROS won’t know where to send orders.
- Print a self-test page to confirm current IP address
- Verify IP matches the MICROS printer configuration
- Ping the IP from BOH server or workstation
Power outages often reset printer network settings unexpectedly.
5. Check Print Routing Configuration in MICROS
If orders are sending to the wrong printer or nowhere at all, routing is likely incorrect.
- Open Kitchen Routing in MICROS Manager
- Confirm correct items and workstations assigned to this printer
- Test by firing tickets from multiple devices
Routing changes after menu updates are a common cause of kitchen printing issues.
6. Reboot BOH Server or Restart CAL Service
If CAL or database services are down, kitchen printers can drop offline even if powered and connected.
- Restart “MICROS CAL” from Windows Services
- Restart “MICROS Database” if needed
- Reboot the BOH server for full reset
This resolves most system-wide printer outages.
When to Contact MICROS Support
- Printer won’t show link lights even with a good cable
- Error persists after IP and routing are verified
- Multiple printers fail at once
- Server logs show recurring CAL crashes
