Quick answer: There’s no self-serve “cancel” button for Clover. To close or pause your account, you contact Clover support (Help in your dashboard, Help on the device, or the support number on your monthly statement). But the contract you actually have depends on who sold you Clover — Clover directly, your bank, or one of thousands of Fiserv resellers — and a hardware lease is a separate contract that usually can’t be cancelled.

This is a practical guide, not legal advice. Clover contracts vary a lot by seller. Your merchant processing agreement, any equipment lease and your statements decide what you owe. Get every number in writing before you stop using Clover.

Most people look this up when the monthly fees keep creeping up, support isn’t fixing a problem, or they’ve found out their “free” terminal came with a multi-year lease. Here’s how Clover cancellation really works, who you need to call, and how to leave without getting surprise charges.

Step 1: Figure Out Who Sold You Clover

This is the part most guides skip. Clover itself says contract terms and termination fees “can vary based on your service provider,” whether that’s Clover Direct, a bank partner like Citi, PNC or Wells Fargo, or one of more than 3,000 other Fiserv partners that sell Clover in the US.

  • Bought on Clover.com (Clover Direct): you deal with Clover support.
  • Bought through your bank: your bank (or its merchant services team) usually holds the processing agreement.
  • Bought from a sales rep or ISO: that company usually holds the processing agreement and sets the termination terms.

Not sure? Check your monthly statement and your original paperwork for the company name and support number. Clover’s help center says your direct support phone number is on your statement (Dashboard → Settings → View all settings → Monthly statements). For contract and fee questions, Clover’s FAQ also lists (877) 569-0236.

Step 2: Know Which Contracts You’re Actually In

A Clover setup can involve up to three separate agreements. Cancelling one doesn’t cancel the others.

1. Clover’s software terms

Clover’s own Terms say either side can end the Clover account by giving the other 30 days’ notice. After termination, Clover gives you a “reasonable period of time” to pull your account data, then deletes it.

2. Your merchant processing agreement

This is the card processing contract with Clover/Fiserv, your bank or your reseller. Many run multi-year terms that auto-renew and include an early termination fee. The formula varies by contract. Check your merchant agreement for the early termination fee formula. It may be a flat fee, a formula based on your monthly fees, or nothing at all.

3. An equipment lease (if you didn’t buy the hardware)

If your Clover hardware is leased through First Data Global Leasing (FDGL), that lease is its own contract. Clover merchant service forms have described it as a “NON-CANCELABLE lease for the full term indicated,” and these leases generally can’t be cancelled early. Returning the device or closing your processing account does not stop the lease payments.

Step 3: Get Your Exit Numbers in Writing

Before you give notice, call whoever holds your processing agreement and ask for:

  • Your contract end / renewal date and how much notice they need
  • The exact early termination fee if you leave now (and if you leave at renewal)
  • Whether your hardware is owned, leased or rented
  • Any monthly charges that keep running after closing (software plans, PCI fees, lease payments)

If your hardware is leased: call the leasing company listed on your lease agreement and ask for a written buyout quote for the rest of your term. Have your Merchant ID and lease number ready.

Have your Merchant ID (MID) or Tax ID ready — Clover asks for one to verify you. Your MID is in the dashboard under Settings → View all settings → Business information.

Step 4: Save Your Data Before You Close

Once your Clover account is terminated, Clover’s Terms say your data is deleted after a reasonable window. Pull what you need first:

  • Sales reports: Dashboard → Reports → pick a report → Options → Export. Clover lets you pull up to 5 years of history, one year at a time.
  • Item sales: the Item Sales report exports to CSV for accounting.
  • Older or custom reports: you can request them through the Help chat in your dashboard.
  • Items, customers, gift cards and loyalty: export or write these down before closing so you can load them into your new system.

Step 5: Close Out Cleanly

  • Close your last batch. Card sales only get deposited after the batch closes, usually within 1–3 business days. If you’re on manual closeout, close the final batch yourself and confirm the deposit lands.
  • Watch for PCI fees. Clover says merchants who don’t verify PCI compliance can see extra monthly fees, shown as “non-receipt of PCI validation” on statements. Make sure these stop once the account closes.
  • Contact Clover support to close the account, and ask for written confirmation of the closing date.
  • Return or keep hardware based on what your seller or leasing company tells you in writing.
  • Check your next two bank statements for leftover Clover, processing or lease debits.

A Practical Clover Exit Checklist

Before you call

  • Find who sold you Clover and who holds your processing agreement
  • Pull your agreement, any lease paperwork and your latest statement
  • Note your MID, contract end date and device list
  • Export reports, items and customer data

When you leave

  • Get the early termination fee and any lease buyout in writing
  • Give notice the way your agreement requires and keep proof
  • Close your final batch and confirm the deposit
  • Have your new POS ready before you switch off Clover

FAQ: Cancelling Clover

Can I cancel Clover online?

No. Clover’s help center says you need to contact Clover support to pause, hold or close your account — through Help in the dashboard, Help on your device, the Clover Go app, or the support number on your monthly statement.

Is there an early termination fee to cancel Clover?

It depends on who sold you Clover. Clover says contract terms and termination fees vary by provider. Check the termination section of your merchant processing agreement and ask for the exact amount in writing.

Can I cancel my Clover equipment lease?

Usually not. Clover equipment leases are typically non-cancellable. Call the leasing company listed on your lease agreement and ask for a written buyout quote.

How much notice does Clover need?

Clover’s own Terms allow either side to end the Clover account with 30 days’ notice. Your processing agreement or reseller contract may require different notice, so check it too.

What happens to my data after I cancel Clover?

Clover’s Terms say you get a reasonable period to extract your data after termination, then it’s deleted. Export your reports and customer data before you close.

If I return the Clover device, do lease payments stop?

No. A lease is a separate contract from your processing account. Returning the hardware or closing processing doesn’t end it — only a buyout or reaching the end of the term does.

Last checked against Clover’s help center, and Clover Terms. Clover and its partners can change terms, so always verify against your own agreement.
