Common Reasons You Need to Reset a Clover Device
- Frozen or unresponsive touchscreen
- Device won’t turn on
- Stuck on the Clover startup logo
- Software update glitches
- Payment apps not responding
- Network or Wi-Fi issues
- Battery fully drained
- Card reader malfunction
Where Is the Power Button on Each Clover Device?
- Clover Mini: Inside the printer compartment on the back side. Open the printer door to access the button.
- Clover Flex: Power button is on the right-hand side of the device.
- Clover Station Duo/Solo: The customer-facing screen has no power button. Reboot using the main hub/base.
- Clover Go: No physical power button. It powers on automatically when charging or connecting via Bluetooth.
- Older Clover Mobile: Power button located on top-right edge.
Many Clover reset failures happen simply because the power button is hidden or located in an unexpected place—especially on the Clover Mini.
How to Reset a Clover Credit Card Machine
1. Soft Reset (Standard Restart)
A soft reset is the safest restart option and won’t erase any data. Use this if your Clover is slow, glitchy, or partially responsive.
- Locate the power button (see device list above)
- Press and hold the power button until the shutdown menu appears
- Select Restart or Power Off
- Wait 10 seconds
- Press the power button again to turn it back on
This fixes the majority of minor Clover issues.
2. Hard Reset (Force Reboot)
If your Clover device is frozen, locked up, or the screen won’t respond, perform a forced restart.
- Press and hold the power button for 10–15 seconds
- Release the button
- Press again to power back on
This forces Clover to reboot even if the software is completely unresponsive.
3. Resetting a Clover Mini (Special Instructions)
The Clover Mini has the most confusing power button placement, which prevents many merchants from resetting it properly.
- Open the back-side printer compartment door
- Locate the small round black/green button inside
- Press and hold for 3–5 seconds (soft reset)
- Press and hold for 10–15 seconds for a forced reset
Note: The Clover Mini may fail to boot if the printer door is open.
4. Resetting a Clover Flex
The Clover Flex has a side-mounted power button and a removable battery, which can help resolve deeper resets.
- Hold the right-side power button for a restart
- Hold it for 10–15 seconds for a hard reset
- If the Flex won’t respond, remove the battery:
- Open back panel
- Remove battery
- Wait 5 seconds
- Reinsert and restart
If your Flex shuts off randomly, the internal battery may be failing—a common issue.
5. Clover Station Duo/Solo Reset Instructions
The customer-facing screen does not control power. To reset:
- Use the power button on the main hub/base
- Hold the hub power button for 10–15 seconds for a hard reboot
- If unresponsive, unplug the power cable for 10 seconds and reconnect
If the hub freezes, the customer screen will freeze as well.
6. Clover Go Reset Instructions
Clover Go has no traditional power button. It powers on automatically.
- Plug it into a charger
- Wait for the LED indicator
- Open the Clover Go app to trigger Bluetooth wake-up
- Make sure the device has charged for at least 10 minutes
If Clover Go appears dead, the battery is often fully drained and needs time before LEDs respond.
Resetting a Clover Stuck on the Clover Logo (Boot Loop)
If your device hangs on the Clover logo:
- Hold the power button for 10–15 seconds to force reboot
- Repeat this up to 3 times
- Keep the device plugged into power
If the device never boots past the logo, the OS may be corrupted. Clover Support may require a factory reset.
Factory Reset (Use Only If Instructed)
⚠ Strong Warning: A factory reset completely wipes your Clover device and requires full reactivation. Only do this when Clover Support confirms it.
- Hold power until the device restarts
- When Clover logo appears, hold Volume Up + Power (model-dependent)
- Select Factory Reset from the recovery menu
- Confirm and reboot
You will need:
- Your Clover merchant login
- Your activation code
- Internet connection
When to Contact Clover Support
- No response after multiple hard resets
- Device stuck on Clover logo permanently
- Charging port loose or damaged
- Flex or Mini battery failing
- Factory reset needed but activation code unavailable
