Shopify POS app not loading? You may see the POS stuck on the loading spinner, freeze during startup, close instantly, or refuse to progress past the Shopify logo. This typically comes from app glitches, outdated versions, network issues, or a memory problem on the iPad.
Here’s how to fix Shopify POS loading issues quickly and get the app working again.
Table of Contents
Common Reasons Shopify POS Won’t Load
- Outdated Shopify POS app version
- Device running low on memory or storage
- Corrupted app session/cache
- Unstable Wi-Fi causing sync failure at startup
- iPad iOS version too outdated
- App crash from multitasking overload
How to Fix Shopify POS App Not Loading
1. Force-Close the Shopify POS App
This clears the current session and fixes most “stuck loading” issues.
- Swipe up from the bottom of the iPad
- Swipe the Shopify POS card up to close it
- Reopen the app
If the app froze while loading data, this resets it cleanly.
2. Restart the iPad
A simple reboot clears overloaded memory and lets the POS start fresh.
- Hold the top button
- Slide to turn off
- Wait 10 seconds
- Turn the device back on
This is one of the fastest fixes for loading screen freezes.
3. Update the Shopify POS App
Outdated POS versions frequently crash or hang at startup after Shopify backend updates.
- Open the App Store
- Search for “Shopify POS”
- Tap Update
Most loading errors disappear after updating.
4. Check Wi-Fi Connection
If the POS app can’t sync with Shopify during startup, it may freeze on the loading screen.
- Move closer to your router
- Toggle Wi-Fi off/on
- Restart your router
Even strong Wi-Fi can fail if network latency is high.
5. Clear Storage Space on the iPad
When the iPad is low on storage, Shopify POS may fail to load or crash immediately.
- Go to Settings → General → iPad Storage
- Delete unused apps/photos
- Ensure at least 2–4GB free
Retail environments with large catalogs hit storage limits more often.
6. Reload Data Inside Shopify POS
If the app loads but freezes on product data, reload the app’s catalog data.
- Open Shopify POS
- Tap ≡ → Settings
- Select Reload Data
This forces the app to refresh products, customers, and settings.
When to Contact Shopify Support
- The app crashes instantly every time you open it
- POS is stuck on the loading screen after multiple restarts
- Products never finish syncing
- The app won’t load on multiple devices
