Shopify POS not connecting to Wi-Fi? You may see “Offline Mode,” failed transactions, slow product loading, or issues syncing sales. This usually happens when the iPad jumps networks, loses connection, or the Wi-Fi signal is unstable — all extremely common in busy retail environments.

Here’s how to get Shopify POS back online quickly and reliably.

Common Reasons Shopify POS Won’t Connect to Wi-Fi

  • iPad switched to a different Wi-Fi network
  • Weak or unstable signal causing POS to enter Offline Mode
  • Router needs rebooting
  • LAN printer requires a specific network
  • iPad in Airplane Mode or Bluetooth conflict
  • Firewall/security settings blocking Shopify connections

How to Fix Shopify POS Wi-Fi & Offline Mode Issues

1. Restart Wi-Fi on the iPad

This refreshes the connection and resolves the majority of temporary drops.

  • Open Settings → Wi-Fi
  • Toggle Wi-Fi off
  • Wait 5 seconds
  • Toggle Wi-Fi back on

Reopen the POS app and check if the Offline Mode banner disappears.

2. Forget and Reconnect to the Network

If the password changed or the iPad cached a bad connection, this resets it fully.

  • Go to Settings → Wi-Fi
  • Tap the “i” next to your network
  • Select Forget This Network
  • Reconnect and re-enter the password

This fixes most cases where POS bounces offline randomly.

3. Reboot Your Router

Shopify POS depends heavily on real-time cloud sync. If your router is overloaded, POS will lag or enter Offline Mode.

  • Unplug router
  • Wait 10 seconds
  • Plug it back in

Once Wi-Fi fully restarts, reopen Shopify POS.

4. Toggle Airplane Mode On/Off

This resets all device radios (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth) and is one of the fastest offline fixes.

  • Open Settings
  • Turn on Airplane Mode
  • Wait 5 seconds
  • Turn Airplane Mode off

Reopen the POS app and test connectivity.

5. Make Sure You’re on the Correct Network

Many stores use multiple networks (Guest / Employee / POS). Shopify POS often fails if the iPad switches networks automatically.

  • Use a dedicated POS network if available
  • Disable “Auto-Join” on unwanted networks
  • Ensure LAN printers are on the same Wi-Fi

LAN printers and barcode scanners depend on being on the same network as the iPad.

6. Restart the iPad

A restart clears network cache issues that cause Offline Mode.

  • Hold power button
  • Slide to turn off
  • Wait 10 seconds
  • Turn iPad back on

Reconnect Wi-Fi and open POS again.

7. Check Shopify Status

Sometimes the problem isn’t your Wi-Fi — it’s Shopify’s cloud services.

  • Google: Shopify Status
  • Check the POS / Checkout services

If Shopify is experiencing an outage, POS may remain offline temporarily.

When to Contact Shopify Support

  • POS stays in Offline Mode even with strong Wi-Fi
  • iPad can’t detect any wireless networks
  • LAN printers fail to connect despite network matching
  • The app freezes when reconnecting to Wi-Fi
