Table of Contents
Common Causes of the Toast App Not Loading
- Outdated Toast POS app version
- Low device storage or memory
- Corrupted app data after a system or Toast update
- Weak or unstable Wi-Fi during startup
- Tablet or terminal overheating
- Too many background apps running
- Toast server outage (less common, but possible)
How to Fix the Toast App Not Loading
1. Force-Close and Reopen the Toast POS App
This is the fastest way to clear minor app glitches.
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open recent apps
- Find Toast POS
- Swipe it away to force-close
- Reopen the Toast POS app
If the app still hangs on the Toast logo for more than 10–15 seconds, move to the next step.
2. Restart the Tablet or POS Terminal
A full restart clears memory and background processes that can block the app from loading.
- Hold down the power button
- Select Restart (or power off, wait a few seconds, then power on)
- Once the device restarts, open the Toast POS app again
3. Check Your Internet Connection
Toast can behave strangely at startup if the network is unstable or the device is on the wrong Wi-Fi.
- Confirm the device is connected to the correct secure Wi-Fi network
- Move closer to your router or access point
- Restart the router if other devices are also slow
- Avoid guest networks or public Wi-Fi for Toast devices
If other Toast devices like the KDS are also lagging or not receiving orders, it may be a network-wide problem. See our Toast KDS Not Working guide.
4. Free Up Storage and Close Background Apps
Low storage and too many apps running at once can keep the Toast app from loading fully.
- Close all unused apps from the recent apps screen
- Delete unused apps, large photos, or videos from the device
- Leave only Toast and essential system apps running
If Toast opens but then freezes, see our Toast POS Frozen troubleshooting guide.
5. Update the Toast POS App
Older app versions are more likely to crash or hang on the loading screen, especially after system updates.
- Restart the device
- Open the Google Play Store (or Toast-managed app store on your device)
- Search for Toast POS
- Tap Update if an update is available
- Reopen the Toast POS app after updating
6. Clear the Toast App Cache (If Supported)
On some Toast-compatible Android tablets, you can clear cached data to fix stubborn loading issues.
- Go to Settings → Apps
- Find and select Toast POS
- Tap Storage
- Select Clear Cache
Important: Do not clear “App Data” unless Toast Support specifically instructs you to. That can remove local settings and require a full sign-in and setup.
7. Reinstall the Toast POS App (Last Resort)
If the app still won’t load after all previous steps, a reinstall may be necessary.
- Confirm with your manager or Toast Support that it’s safe to uninstall
- Uninstall the Toast POS app from the device
- Restart the tablet or terminal
- Reinstall Toast POS and sign back in
When to Contact Toast Support
