If your Toast tablet isn’t syncing—orders not showing up, no updates across terminals, or devices falling out of sync—this guide walks you through the fastest ways to get everything communicating again.

Common Causes of Toast Tablet Sync Issues

  • Tablets on different Wi-Fi networks
  • Weak Wi-Fi signal or interference
  • Router or access point overload
  • Outdated Toast POS app version
  • Device crash or low memory
  • KDS or other terminals offline
  • Temporary Toast service sync delay

How to Fix Toast Tablet Not Syncing

1. Confirm the Tablet Is on the Correct Wi-Fi Network

All Toast devices must be on the same secured network to sync properly. Guest networks break syncing.

  • Swipe down → open Wi-Fi settings
  • Connect to your secure business network
  • Forget guest networks completely
  • Reconnect and check syncing again

2. Restart the Toast Tablet

A quick restart fixes most sync failures caused by app glitches or background processes.

  • Hold power button → choose Restart
  • After reboot, reopen Toast POS
  • Check if orders sync across devices

If the tablet was also freezing, see our Toast POS Frozen guide.

3. Check If Other Toast Devices Are Offline

Sync issues often start when a single terminal or KDS screen drops offline.

  • Check if the KDS is slow or missing orders
  • Check if another register is offline
  • Restart any devices that aren’t updating

If your kitchen screens are also delayed or losing orders, see our Toast KDS Not Working guide.

4. Restart Your Router & Access Points

Restaurants with multiple devices often overload their router during peak hours. A reboot clears congestion.

  • Restart the router
  • Restart access points
  • Wait 1–2 minutes for full reboot
  • Reconnect Toast devices

5. Update the Toast POS App

Outdated versions can cause delayed syncing and broken communication between stations.

  • Restart the device
  • Open the device app manager
  • Search Toast POS
  • Tap Update if available

6. Move the Tablet Closer to Your Router

Walls, freezers, metal, and distance all weaken Toast’s Wi-Fi performance.

  • Move within 10–20 feet of the router/AP
  • Avoid metal counters or equipment
  • Ensure access points cover the full service area

7. Clear Toast App Cache (If Supported)

This helps if the app is glitchy or slow to update.

  • Settings → Apps
  • Select Toast POS
  • Storage → Clear Cache

Do NOT clear “App Data” unless Toast support instructs you to, as it resets local settings.

8. Reboot the Entire Toast System (Last Resort)

If syncing is broken across multiple devices, restart everything together:

  • All Toast tablets/registers
  • KDS screens
  • Routers & access points
  • Network switches

When to Contact Toast Support

Contact Toast if syncing issues continue after these steps. You may be dealing with:

  • Misconfigured network settings
  • Merchant account sync problems
  • Hardware or AP coverage issues
  • Temporary Toast service outages

Toast Tablet Not Syncing – FAQs

Why isn’t my Toast tablet syncing?

Usually due to Wi-Fi problems, outdated software, or another device on the network going offline.

Do all Toast devices need to be on the same network?

Yes. Syncing only works when all devices use the same secure business Wi-Fi.

Why are orders not showing up on the KDS?

The KDS may be offline or lagging. Restart the KDS and check your Wi-Fi connection.

Why does syncing break during dinner rush?

Your router or access point may be overloaded. A reboot often fixes this.

Does Toast work offline?

Payments can run in Offline Mode, but device syncing generally requires a stable Wi-Fi connection.
