If your Clover printer isn’t printing—whether it’s a receipt printer, kitchen printer, or the built-in printer on Clover Mini—this guide shows you the fastest, guaranteed fixes used by real Clover merchants.

These steps work for Clover Mini, Clover Station, Duo, Solo, Flex, and external network kitchen printers.

Common Reasons a Clover Printer Won’t Print

  • Paper installed upside down (most common)
  • Printer door not fully closed
  • Paper jam or cutter jam
  • Printer not assigned to an order type (kitchen printers)
  • Wi-Fi/Ethernet issues (for network printers)
  • Clover Mini hub connection loose
  • Printer offline or power cable loose
  • Using non-thermal paper in a thermal printer

How to Fix a Clover Printer That’s Not Printing

1. Check the Paper Roll (Fixes 50% of Clover Printing Problems)

Clover printers only work with thermal paper. If the paper is upside down, nothing will print.

  • Open the printer door
  • Remove the paper roll
  • Make sure the shiny thermal side faces up
  • Reinstall the roll and close the door firmly

If you can scratch the paper and see a black mark, it’s thermal paper.

2. Close the Printer Door Firmly

Clover Mini and Clover Station printers won’t print if the door isn’t completely latched—this is extremely common during busy service.

  • Open the door
  • Push it closed until you hear a click
  • Try printing again

If the door is slightly open, Clover will silently fail to print.

3. Clear a Paper Jam or Cutter Jam

If the printer started printing but stopped, the cutter may be jammed.

  • Open the printer door
  • Remove jammed paper
  • Trim the edge to make it clean and straight
  • Reinstall the roll
  • Restart the printer (restart Clover Mini or Station hub)

4. Restart Clover or the Printer Hub

Many Clover Mini and Station printers depend on the main hub. If the hub freezes, the printer stops working too.

  • Hold the power button until restart options appear
  • Select Restart
  • If frozen, hold power 10–15 seconds

If your system is frozen, use our full guide: How to Reset a Clover Credit Card Machine.

5. Check Printer Settings & Assignment

Kitchen printers must be assigned to categories, items, or order types—or they won’t print anything.

  • Go to Account → Printers
  • Select your printer
  • Confirm it’s assigned to the correct order types (e.g., Food, Bar, Receipts)
  • Enable printing for both Orders and Receipts

This solves most kitchen printer failures.

6. Check Wi-Fi or Ethernet (For Network Kitchen Printers)

Kitchen printers connect differently than Clover Mini’s built-in printer.

  • Confirm the printer is plugged into Ethernet
  • Make sure the router is online
  • Keep printer and Clover device on the same network
  • Restart the printer and router

If Wi-Fi is dropping, see our guide: Clover Wi-Fi Not Connecting.

7. Check Power Cables & Hub Connections

If using Clover Station or Duo/Solo, the printer depends on the main hub’s power connection.

  • Unplug the hub power cable
  • Reconnect tightly
  • Check if the printer status light turns on

8. Update Clover Software

  • Open Settings → About
  • Install pending updates
  • Restart your device

Printer firmware bugs are often fixed through Clover updates.

When to Contact Clover Support

  • Printer won’t power on
  • Printer shows connected but won’t print anything
  • Kitchen printer stays offline
  • Printer cutter stuck or damaged
  • Printer error beeps repeatedly
