Clover Screen Not Responding – Common Causes

  • Temporary software freeze
  • Peripheral lock-up (card reader, printer, barcode scanner)
  • Overheating (very common on Clover Mini & Flex)
  • Power brick or cable not providing stable power
  • Screen protector interfering with touch input
  • Dirty or greasy display
  • Old Clover OS version
  • Hardware failure (touch panel or motherboard)

How to Fix a Clover Touchscreen That’s Not Responding

1. Restart the Clover Device (Most Common Fix)

On Clover Mini & Flex:

  • Press and hold the power button
  • Wait for the device to turn off
  • Power it back on

On Clover Station (2018/2021 models):

  • Unplug the power brick
  • Wait 10 seconds
  • Plug it back in

Reboots clear 90% of touchscreen freezes.

2. Clean the Screen (Oil & Moisture Can Block Touch)

  • Use a microfiber cloth
  • Wipe away grease, smudges, and moisture
  • Remove any aftermarket screen protectors

Clover touchscreens are sensitive to oil buildup, which can cause “phantom taps” or dead spots.

3. Remove Peripherals That May Be Freezing the Device

  • Card reader
  • Printer cable
  • USB accessories
  • Cash drawer
  • Barcode scanner

Faulty peripherals commonly lock the UI. After disconnecting, reboot the device.

4. Check the Power Supply & Cable

If the Clover power brick is loose or failing, the touchscreen may become slow or unresponsive.

  • Ensure the power brick is firmly plugged in
  • Try a different outlet
  • Inspect the cable for damage

Clover Mini is especially known to freeze when power fluctuates.

5. Update Clover OS

  • From the main Clover home screen, open Settings → About Device
  • Look for update prompts
  • Install updates and reboot

Outdated OS versions can cause lag, crashes, and touchscreen issues.

6. Let the Device Cool Down

Clover Mini and Flex often overheat during busy hours, causing screen lag or tap delays.

  • Turn off the device for 5–10 minutes
  • Move Clover away from heat sources
  • Avoid blocking ventilation ports

7. Last Resort: Full Restart / Reset Options

If nothing works, try a full shutdown:

  • Power off completely
  • Unplug peripherals
  • Wait 15 seconds
  • Power back on

If the screen still won’t respond, you may need hardware repair.

Why did my Clover freeze during a sale?
