FAQ – Additional Questions

Is NRS POS cloud-based?

Yes — NRS offers cloud-based features including remote store management via mobile app and web portal. Your sales data syncs to the cloud for access from anywhere.

Does NRS require a contract?

Yes. NRS requires a contract, and if you cancel NRS Pay early, you’ll be charged standard (higher) POS prices and may need to pay back equipment discounts received.

Can I use my own payment processor?

Yes, but your costs will be significantly higher. Software prices nearly double without NRS Pay, and you won’t receive the hardware discount or free card reader.

How do I remove the ads from the customer screen?

NRS displays their own promotional ads on the customer-facing screen by default. To remove these ads and run only your own promotions, you must pay an additional $44.95/month.

Does NRS work for gas stations?

Yes. NRS Petro is specifically designed for gas station c-stores, offering pump-integrated POS and affordable EMV compliance solutions. Contact NRS for separate Petro pricing.

What happens if I return the equipment?

Equipment must be returned in undamaged working condition. If not, you’ll be assessed a $350 fee per device.

Verdict

The National Retail Solutions POS system is a reasonable choice for independent retailers looking for an affordable, all-in-one system — especially gas stations and convenience stores that need eWIC integration or pump connectivity.

The low entry price is attractive, but be aware of the add-on costs that can quickly accumulate. The mandatory customer-screen ads (unless you pay extra) and polarized reviews are worth considering. If 24/7 support is important to you, look elsewhere — NRS only offers 7-day support.

Overall, NRS is a solid budget option for small independent retailers who don’t mind using their payment processing and can live with some limitations. For more robust features and better support, consider POS Nation or Square for Retail.

We went with NRS for our first POS and were shocked by the hidden recurring costs. This company tends to nickel and dime you, and if you don’t want their OWN advertisements running on the customer facing screen you have to pay a monthly charge that amounts to hundreds of dollars a year. Each little service or add-on also carries a monthly cost. We have decided to move away from this platform after about 1 week in use.

    + PROS: Easy to setup
    - CONS: Lots of hidden charges and off-shore support. Account rep not as responsive after you've signed their contract.

The screen freeze in the middle of the transaction at least 10 times a day. For 3 months now they give me a case number and every time I call the told me
When I asked for a supervisor they told me they don’t have a supervisor. No body called me this 3 months to tell me anything
I thing the owner is running this company from his mother’s basement. It deserves -0 stars

+ PROS: Easy to set up
    - CONS: Screen freeze all the time You can't split orders Costumer service is all promises but no solutions
